I had an interesting experience tonight. I got to talking with a neighbor at the apartment complex here and he started attacking jews and claimed that the two nuclear bombs dropped on Japan equated to a holocaust. He obviously is clueless when it comes to the facts of the matter - of which the bombing actually saved hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides if America had simply invaded. He also called Israel of being hardline killers of innocents, and when I tried to talk to him about the human shields that the terrorists used, he wouldn't let me finish. He stated that Israel was incredibly racist, but when I tried to mention how the Muslims and Christians in Israel are free to worship as they please and have the greatest freedoms than in any Arabic nation, he again cut me off.
Basically, it was Conservative vs. Liberal, and near the end he called me an idiot, a bigot, and insinuated to a passerby that I was going to hit him when I had no desire to do so at all, and said that he had no respect for me. He then went on to state that he hates America's military (to quote, "F&^% America!") and really attacked them verbally. At this point in the discussion (which he started), I realized that I was talking to a brick wall.
I guess the real issue is that you can't debate liberals. You bring out logical arguments, and when they can't refute them, they resort to name calling and demonizing of character. I truly feel sorry for my neighbor and people like him.
Liberty's wail is overflowing the streams, rivers, mountains and plains of America.

Cordoba Mosque Opens
Well folks, its happened. The Cordoba Mosque has opened. the UK's Mail Online reports:
The first part of Park51, the controversial Lower Manhattan Islamic community centre, is opening on Wednesday with an art exhibition featuring photographs of children. If this isn't a slap in the face to the victims of 9-11, I don't know what is.
Just a few blocks away from the site where the Twin Towers once stood, the exhibition marks Park51’s first big public event.

Painesville Mother of 4 Faces Deportation to Mexico
She's been here illegally for 16 years but can't speak English. She had a ton of anchor babies, and lived all that time off of the welfare system. I have not a single ounce of sympathy for her. She had plenty of time to apply for citizenship. The fact is, people like her don't seek to assimilate. She never wanted to be a Mexican-American. She wanted to be a Mexican who lives in America. Why she got benefits is thanks only to the socialists who want to see a one world government.
The sob story isn't about her risking deportation, the sob story is how she fed off of Americans for 16 straight years and didn't even respect the country enough to learn its language. Send her back to Mexico where she belongs!

Idiots Rage
Today is the so called "American Day of Rage" where a bunch of ill informed college students along with Communists descend upon Wall Street to protest banks and corporations. Idiots.
Where do these people think jobs come from? The government? Hardly. Its businesses, both big and small, that provide jobs. Protesting capitalism reeks of communistic propaganda. The Liberals wants to tax the rich and big business, reducing their income and accordingly their ability to create jobs. How is any amount of tax against corporations going to succeed when those businesses no longer produce a strong stream of revenue? By these acts, the buffoons are dooming America even further.
Students are upset about graduating with $100k in debt, and I do feel for them. However, attempting to take down big business isn't going to help their cause. Jobs are tanking now as it is, and anyone with any common sense knows that by taxing the rich and businesses, there will be even fewer jobs. Why not attack the universities for charging so much? That's a much grander idea. But no, the professors and academics balk at the idea of their money tree being pruned.
What America needs is to reduce taxes on the rich and big business. Government needs to step back and ease all the restrictions along with the already draconian tax codes in existence. Only then will the job market rebound. And with more workers, a larger base for taxation will arise. Its acknowledge that government needs taxation to function, and I agree. But with wasteful socialistic funded programs and the bleeding dry of corporations, things will only get worse.
Liberals accuse Republicans of being in the "pocket" of big business. At the least that's a misunderstanding, and at the most a lie. Republicans - indeed Conservatives - are in the "pocket" of the every day American. We know that governments can't produce revenue, only businesses can. So that's why we fight against what the Communists are attempting.
At this point, a well informed person would think that the leftists would get a hint from Greece and the majority of the European Union (along with California) that big government run socialized programs do not work. But then again, we have generations of drones who have "graduated" from our liberal universities. They don't know how to think for themselves and either knowingly or unwittingly are attempting to tear America down from the inside out.
So today, the "educated" buffoons of America are trying to attack the core of America's greatness and Her ability to create jobs. They're signing their own death warrants - and haven't a clue.

Occupiers?
Listen below and you'll hear it from the man himself - American is responsible for 9-11. Disgraceful.
Sep 12, 2011
Proud American
America did not cause 9-11. There was no government conspiracy, and our support for Israel is no excuse for the 2,996 people who were murdered ten years ago. The United States supports numerous other countries, why is it that our support for Israel is evil? It isn't. Israel is a recognized nation. They did not displace the Palestinians. In fact, before Israel's existence, there wasn't even a group called Palestinians! They are a bunch of refugees who were supposed to be repatriated into Egypt and other Islamic nations, but were left to rot so as to be used as an excuse to attack Israel on the battlefield - both moral and militarily. Israel is the only truly democratic state in the area, and a staunch ally of America. To turn our backs on them because a bunch of blood thirsty killers don't like it amounts to cowardice.
Concerning the civilian deaths in the conflicts, there is no one to blame but the islamists themselves who purposefully hide behind human shields. In our country's paranoid rules of engagements, our troops can't even shoot at thugs setting up roadside bombs if they are in the vicinity of a civilian population. They have to watch those death traps being constructed and wonder how many of their brothers and sisters will die because of them.
America went to war as a result of war being declared upon us. People seem to have forgotten that nations such as Iraq were giving money to the families of suicide bombers and that the entire Middle East raises its children up in hatred and with a desire for death. While Americans are fighting to live, these people are fighting to die. People say that Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. They forget that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and used them on its own people - the Kurds. As well, people seem to forget that prior to our invasion, military convoys were photographed via satellite heading into Syria. That, my friends, is how Syria's nuclear program advanced so quickly. As well, we did indeed find traces of WMDs in Iraq. It was our folly to announce a date for invasion, giving Saddam time to shuttle off his incriminating evidence.
People say we were wrong to invade Afghanistan. They forget about the Taliban and how Osama hid out in that country as well as Pakistan. The Taliban (still in existence today) is an Islamic organization fully bent upon forcing the populace into following strict adherence to Sharia law - an evil law that subjugates and tortures people in the name of Allah.
Should we be in Afghanistan now? Personally, I think not. Why? Because our politicians are not allowing our military to fully propagate war. Just as in Vietnam, our military's hands are tied politically and as a result, thousands of our soldiers have perished. If we are not going to fight a real war, then we need to get out.
I'm upset at those who say that America is a terrorist nation because we used nuclear bombs to finish the second World War. These people are grossly ignorant of history. They forget that on the islands of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the Japanese fought to the death. They do not understand that the entire island nation of Japan was preparing for a fight to the end. Civilians were being trained in warfare and if we had invaded the home islands, the casualties calculated were tremendous. To gauge the fanaticism of the Japanese empire of the day is the fact that it took two bombs to force the nation to surrender. Even after the first nuclear bomb was dropped, they were still ready to fight to the death. That was the resolve of our foe. Those who decry our use of nuclear bombs seem to think that multiple hundreds of thousands of deaths - on both sides - were preferable to the bomb. Are they bloodthirsty?
Unlike Obama and those who spit hatred and disgust towards this nation, I will not apologize. In fact, I'm proud of this country's history and am blessed to be one if its citizens. Because of this nation's efforts, Nazism was stopped cold, and France, Britain and many other nations were spared dictatorship. Communism, that evil humanistic policy of so called "equality," was destroyed. The USSR fell and the wall between East and West Berlin was torn down. This country was founded on individualism and greatness. Her history is full of excellence from all walks of life: science, religion, freedom, technology, education, medical, etc. How anyone can appologize for this blows me away.
Yes, America does have its faults, and is currently embroiled in a fight for its life thanks to the Progressive Communists at the helm and in our public institutions. Yet there is still hope as the salt of the Earth Americans are standing up and shouting, "No more! This is our country, and you can't have it!"
No, my friends. Don't look to me for apologies. This nation has nothing to be ashamed of, but instead, has everything to be proud of. God bless the USA!

9-11: Ten Years Later
Ten years ago today, terrorists shouting “Allahu Akbar” slit the throats of innocent men and women, and then proceeded to fly passenger jets into the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon, and during a struggle for control, nosedived into a field in Pennsylvania. Ten years ago today, selfless men from New York's Police and Fire Departments rushed into buildings set ablaze by hundreds of gallons of jet fuel in a heroic attempt to save victims caught inside. They and the victims were crushed to death when the buildings collapsed. Many others had jumped to their deaths in a final act of desperation to avoid burning to death. Some jumped in pairs and held on to each other as they plummeted to their doom. For a while, this act of war unified Americans of all political persuasions. But not for long.
Today, conspiracy theorists blame either the government, the Jews, or big business for the attacks. They say that there was no way that fully loaded jetliners could cause the Twin towers to collapse. They claim that Islamic hatred towards America is due to our “criminal acts” committed in the Middle East. Not only do I find this highly insulting, but treasonous.
The fact of the matter is that America was called the “Big Satan” way before 9-11. Why? Simple. America is the world leader in personal freedom and democracy. We encourage all faiths (or those with none). Even though America supports Israel, the Islamists would hate us even if Israel didn't exist as we are the largest Christian nation in the world - and they can't stomach that.
Since the events of 9-11, I have become a student of Islam – or more to the point, its history and existence as of today. From my research, I've come to conclude that Islam is demonically inspired. Now, I've heard people tell me that all religions are “evil,” and the cause of wars. To those who say such things, I respond by saying that “your ignorance is repulsive.” The 20th century was filled with wars from the two World Wars through conflicts such as those in Vietnam, the Cold War, and other minor conflicts throughout the world.
Neither World Wars were influenced by religion. Both times, Germany attempted to bring the world to its knees, and it was not done in the name of Christ. Japan murdered an untold number of victims in its attempt to become an empire, and that was not done in the name of any religion. The rise of Communism (along with the Russian and Chinese revolutions) saw the deaths of millions – this certainly wasn't done in the name of religion.
People then point to the Crusades, but they are either ignorant of or unwilling to admit that the Crusades were a response to Muslim aggression and capture of the Holy Land. The simple fact is that atheistic humanism has caused more deaths and destruction in the past century alone then in the entire history of Christianity.
Now, there is one religion that has caused an untold amount of death and suffering. That religion is Islam. Indeed, in just the past ten years, Islam has racked up 17,720 terrorist attacks as of this date. These attacks have resulted in many thousands of deaths, and hundreds of thousands more maimed for life. Every single one was committed in the name of “Allah.” Yet for some reason, people turn a blind eye to these facts and actually coddle up to these barbarians. Now, before I begin, I must claim that I do not hate Muslims. I do hate Islam itself, but not those who follow it. There is a difference. I want to see those trapped under the wing of Lucifer freed. I have a sincere heart for them.
9-11 should be a reminder to us all that Islamists (those whom are fully “sold” to the religion) seek death over life. To die in Jihad is their ultimate goal, as it promises them “paradise.” One cannot argue with such a mindset.
So while today we remember those who were lost, and weep for families that have been destroyed, we must also remember why and who committed these acts. Is it to do so simply for revenge? God forbid! But we must remember so that it will never happen again. Until Islam truly moderates itself, acknowledges that it cannot co-exist with free societies as it is today, we cannot turn our backs blindly to those who practice this demonically inspired religion. Already they are building the Cordoba Mosque mere blocks from the remains of the Twin Towers. In fact, the building they are replacing was damaged from the 9-11 attacks. The memorial in Pennsylvania horrifically represents the Islamic symbol - the crescent, and each year we give more and more concessions to Islam that we wouldn't dare think of giving to Christianity – or any other religion.
We must stop being afraid and every time Islam attempts to influence America, we should think back to the 2,996 victims of 9-11. They are 2,996 reasons why Islam cannot be trusted in its current state.
“But they are only radicals hijacking a religion!” you may protest. I disagree. In fact, many converts to Islam suddenly become aggressive and have been convicted over the past few years for either attempting or aiding and abetting terrorists attacks. Those who truly believe have a surplus of scriptures from their “holy Koran” that incites violence, jihad, and murder. Those we call “moderates” are those who, for some reason, are the equivalent to liberal Christians – denying much of what is written in their own scriptures.
Today, let us drop our conspiracy theories, stop calling our own nation “criminal,” stop apologizing to the world for this nation's greatness, and accept the facts as they are. To do otherwise shames the memories of those who died ten years ago on September 11, 2001.
Our Lady of Freedom
By Philip Damon
Born in conflict this nation was,
A hope for the world to see.
A fight for freedom from tyranny’s jaws,
By a people who must be free.
A nation to be ruled by a people as one,
No matter what the cost.
So off we sent our daughters and sons,
That this freedom would not be lost.
Freedom called, the nations bled,
As evil played its hand.
So America took this world and led
The charge on foreign sand.
From France to England to the Philippines,
Our nation rose as one.
An army of boys still in their teens,
Sacrificed all ‘til freedom was won.
Terror struck our heart one day,
And mothers learned to weep.
Then American’s rose with one voice to say,
“Our freedom we will keep!”
Through wars and strife our flag yet stands,
Its stars and stripes revealed.
Not on our knees nor on our hands
Will this nation ever yield!
Remember today the cost that was paid,
The price for freedoms held dear.
Many bodies, in graves were laid,
So that our citizens would never fear.
Tyrants and rulers hide in terror,
As America raises her fists.
This lady is our standard-bearer
Flag held by unbending wrists.
Through wars and strife our flag yet stands,
Its stars and stripes revealed.
Not on our knees nor on our hands
Will this nation ever yield!
A hope for the world to see.

9/11 Tribute to David D. Alger

How does one perform an adequate tribute to the life of a man? How does one reach out, and through meager words, attempt to describe the life of one who has touched many? Though an entire library of books may be written, they would not do justice concerning that individual. As a writer, I have come to the stark conclusion that words become insufferably inadequate when they attempt to speak of David D. Alger. However, this is a task that I have humbly undertaken.
David Alger was born on December 15, 1943. He entered into the world during a time of crisis. It seems almost prophetic that he would leave the world at the beginning of another. Born in California, he grew up in Gross Pointe, Michigan. He attended Harvard University where he majored and then graduated with a diploma in history. He then went on to the University of Michigan where he not only received his M.B.A, but would eventually earn the Alumni Achievement Award which “recognizes alumni of the Business School whose attainments in their professional fields have brought distinction to themselves, credit to the School and benefit to their fellow citizens.”
In 1968, he started his career as a securities analyst. With talent promoted by hard work and strong ethics, he quickly ascended the corporate ladder. By September of 2001, he was the executive vice president and chief financial officer of Fred Alger Management.
David made numerous appearances on financial shows. A common place to find him was on CNBC’s Squawkbox. Not content to follow the common practices of others, he developed a successful, yet unorthodox program that involved computer modeling.
Although his professional life was indeed impressive, it was through his personal character that he truly shined. While researching the life of this great man, I came across numerous testimonies written by those who knew him. What they wrote of was not his business achievements, though they were many, but of his character. Some of those tributes can be found at the David D. Alger Guest Book hosted by legacy.com.
Katie Quinn Harvey described an instance where a client became irate and proceeded to curse over the phone. She went on to write:
He (David) let me put the call through and told the man that he could have his money back from the fund and if he ever spoke to his staff again in an disrespectful manner that he'd "head butt him"...he then called me at my desk and asked if I was okay. He praised me for my patience with this man and apologized that I had to deal with him at all and assured me it had been taken care of….This big powerful man actually cared about the lowly new phone rep.
Lissette Morales wrote:
Mr. Alger: You always had a smile on your face and always were interested in talking to my parents and me. You have always treated us with respect and kindness and have inspired me in more ways than you can imagine.
Patricia (Pat) Whalen, whose daughter also lost her life on that fateful day, wrote:
My daughter had been hired by David to begin working at the firm upon her graduation from UofM in April 2000. So when she had asked if I wanted to come and meet her future boss, I didn't hesitate. I attended that evening and was amazed to learn what a kind, caring, and loving person he was. Upon seeing us enter the room, he hurried over to greet her with a BIG hug and said, "I wondered if you would be here tonight!" As Meredith's father had died when she was 11 and her sister was 9, it warmed my heart to know another caring male figure would be in her young life--and that she would not be just a "faceless" employee in just another firm in NYC.
There are countless other stories by individuals who were touched by David. As it is not my place to list them all here, I implore you to go and read them for yourself. They paint the picture of a man who was not aloof in his concerns for his company. A charismatic man, he truly cared for each individual employee. People who worked under him were not treated as mere numbers, but as individuals who mattered. If only more employers would learn from the example set by him.
Not much could be found concerning his personal life, and perhaps that is best. Yet it does not take a leap of faith to conclude that he was a loving husband, father and son. Known for his bear hugs, the depth of love that he held for his family as well as the affection they held in return cannot be fathomed.
On that fateful September 11th morning in 2001, David was with other Alger employees on the 93rd floor of the North Tower. The first to be struck, none who occupied it had any inclination that this vicious attack was about to take place.
In the aftermath of the attack and our resulting loss of this great man, the University of Michigan renamed the “Alumni Achievement Award” to the “David D. Alger Alumni Achievement Award.” A fine tribute, it encourages others to follow in his gigantic footsteps.
David D. Alger is survived by his wife and two daughters, as well as his brother and sister. It is my profound wish that the legacy he started will endure well into the unforeseeable future.

Weekend of Mourning
Every year I remember, and tears never fail to fall from my eyes. Sunday I plan to wear my patriotic clothes, and take my motorcycle for a ride. Mayhaps I will find others and we will link up.
Please return tomorrow and remember the events of ten year ago with me. Post comments and tell us what you remember. Let us never forget the dastardly attacks upon this nation, nor the cheers thrown up by the Muslims for the death and destruction that was at hand. Remember.

More Union Hijinks
The Associated Press has reported on union workers having a little spat in Washington state. It appears that
[the] International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that's staffing a workforce of other union laborers. So, in a show of "solidarity" for (I assume) "Workers of America" [sic], they stormed the docks, threatened a police officer with a baseball bat, damaged railroad property, held security guards hostage, and then headed back to their pad for a few brewskies. Interestingly enough, even though they did all this (in addition to ignoring a restraining order),
No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. But fear not, oh selfless and brave union workers!
"A lot of the protesters were telling us this in only the start."Keep showing that class, guys. You're doing wonders for your public image!

God Bless America
Dear readers, the following is something that I got in an email. It concerns... well, just read and listen to find out! I happened to get a dust mote in my eye while listening to this...
- A side note, I don't know who originally did this, so I don't know whom to give credit to. But who ever did, thank you!
- A side note, I don't know who originally did this, so I don't know whom to give credit to. But who ever did, thank you!
The video below is the very first public singing of “GOD BLESS AMERICA.” But before you watch, you should also know the story of the song. The time was 1940. America was still in a terrible economic depression. Hitler was taking over Europe and Americans were afraid we’d have to go to war. It was a time of hardship and worry for most Americans.
This was the era just before TV, when radio shows were HUGE, and American families sat around their radios in the evenings, listening to their favorite entertainers – and no entertainer of that era was bigger than Kate Smith. Kate was also large in size, and the popular phrase still used today is in deference to her, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.” Kate Smith might not have made it big in the age of TV, but with her voice coming over the radio, she was the biggest star of her time.
Kate was also very patriotic. It hurt her to see Americans so depressed and afraid of what the next day would bring. She had hope for America, and faith in her fellow Americans. She wanted to do something to cheer them up, so she went to the famous American song-writer, Irving Berlin (also wrote “White Christmas”) and asked him to write a song that would make Americans feel good again about their country. When she described what she was looking for, he said he had just the song for her. He went to his files and found a song that he had written, but never published, 22 years before - way back in 1917. He gave it to Kate Smith and she worked on it with her studio orchestra. She and Irving Berlin were not sure how the song would be received by the public, but both agreed they would not take any profits from “God Bless America”– any profits would go to the Boy Scouts of America. Over the years, the Boy Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties from this song.
This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience. She introduces the new song for the very first time, and starts singing. After the first couple verses, with her voice in the background still singing, scenes are shown from the 1940 movie, “You’re In The Army Now.” At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper – it’s Ronald Reagan. Frank Sinatra considered Kate Smith the best singer of her time, and said when he and a million other guys first heard her sing “God Bless America”on the radio, they all pretended to have “dust in their eyes” as they wiped away a tear or two…
To this day, “God Bless America”stirs our patriotic feelings and pride in our country. Back in 1940, When Kate Smith went looking for a song to raise the spirits of her fellow Americans, I doubt she realized just how successful the results would be – for her fellow Americans during those years of hardship and worry, and for many generations of Americans to follow… Now that you know the story of the song, I hope you will enjoy it and treasure it even more. God Bless America!

Troubled Patriot Update - September 2011
Well, the second month of this revived blog has arrived. So far, I've covered a few issues, although barely scratched the surface of all that has been going on.
Some may be wondering why I don't discipline my writing to opposing only the leftists of the nation. Why have I written negative articles concerning Ron Paul, Rick Perry, and the police? Am I doing more damage than good? Well the simple matter is that I need to write about things which I think greatly effect this nation. I hate to see people carried away with their dreams (like those who voted for Obama) without really knowing where the issue and/or people they support stand. Take Ron Paul for example. Many people love him, including a good portion of those I call friends. Yet it is my personal belief that he would greatly endanger not only America, but what remains of word stability. Rick Perry, on the other hand, has me worried as his past actions do not echo his words of today. I'll be the first to admit that in the beginning, I was very supportive of him. Yet as more things have come to light, that support has quickly dwindled.
Just like you, I want Obama out of office. However, I don't want to see him replaced with a Rino or one who does not share the same values of the American Majority. With that in mind, I'll continue to write about issues and people whom I deem deserving of attention.
In the coming weeks, I'll continue the series I started last month on Saul Alinsky. I apologize for not writing more, but the past few weeks have been incredibly busy for me. I simply haven't had the time or gumption to immerse myself into his twisted thoughts.
As well, I've changed the layout of this blog. I'm trying to make it as simple as possible (and easy on the eyes) while still allowing large amounts of information to be posted. I've also added in options where you can post articles to facebook and other sites. If you agree with what I write, I'd ask that you'd pass the word around about The Troubled Patriot. As self serving as it may seem, the larger the audience that I have, the more incentive I have to write.
Finally, this month will mark the ten year anniversary of 9-11. As this is a momentous event, I plan to do something in memorial - something different then what I've done in the past. As of yet, I don't quite know what that will be. And on a side note, I've seen a lot of traffic flowing here in regards to the tribute I wrote a couple years back for David D. Alger. I'm honored to know I've made a small difference in regard to his legacy, and will keep that tribute up for the duration of this blog's existence. He was a great man, and it is my hope that his legacy will be more than just memories.

Unions - Cataclysmic Entities
The New York Times has reported that the Postal Service is dangerously close to shutting down. While numerous excuses such as:
As any computer user knows, the Internet revolution has led to people and businesses sending far less conventional mail.
...
The causes of the crisis are well known and immensely difficult to overcome.
Mail volume has plummeted with the rise of e-mail, electronic bill-paying and a Web that makes everything from fashion catalogs to news instantly available. The system will handle an estimated 167 billion pieces of mail this fiscal year, down 22 percent from five years ago.
What really stood out to me was the only paragraph that the Times wrote concerning one particular reason - unions.
At the same time, decades of contractual promises made to unionized workers, including no-layoff clauses, are increasing the post office’s costs. Labor represents 80 percent of the agency’s expenses, compared with 53 percent at United Parcel Service and 32 percent at FedEx, its two biggest private competitors. Postal workers also receive more generous health benefits than most other federal employees.
While some may poo-pah me for picking on unions, some interesting facts arise. Fed Ex (which is comprised of only 32 percent union membership) has reported strong economic growth. According to Fed Ex's 2011 Annual Report, there has been a 13% increase in revenues year over year to nearly $40 billion. In addition, Fed Ex reports 22% earnings per share increase year over year and 23% increase in net earnings year over year.
According to UPS's (with 53 percent union membership) Interm Income Statement, 10k revenue is moderately up. Their 2nd quarter reports at 13,191.0 - up from Q1 - 12,582.0.
Yet the Postal service (with 80 percent union membership) is in dire trouble. There is a pattern here. Fed Ex, with the least amount of union membership, shows the most growth. UPS, with a larger union force, exhibits moderate growth, while the U.S. Postal service - with a large union force - showing major losses. It would be ignorant to blame this on the internet age alone.
Lets not stop at simply examining postal services. We all recall the recent legislative fight in the state of Wisconsin. Labor unions bussed people in from all over the country, and teachers took "sick days" to protest Republican efforts at changing interaction with state unions. The rallying cry was that the new laws would "break" the state's financial proverbial back and dis-empower the "workers." Yet the reality is quite different. According to a report from Statehousenews, school districts are seeing savings instead of losses.
Overall, the state budget cut more than $800 million from education, but Walker’s law gave school districts a boost by requiring teachers to pay 12.6 percent of their health-care premiums and 5.8 percent of their pensions. The legislation also contains a provision that limits teachers’ collective bargaining to wages only, and caps salary increases to the rate of inflation.
In addition, the Washington Examiner reported that:
The Kaukauna School District, in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin near Appleton, has about 4,200 students and about 400 employees. It has struggled in recent times and this year faced a deficit of $400,000. But after the law went into effect, at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, school officials put in place new policies they estimate will turn that $400,000 deficit into a $1.5 million surplus. And it's all because of the very provisions that union leaders predicted would be disastrous.
Clearly, unions add a heavy economic weight to any business or organization they attach themselves to. So whats really going on here? Unions fight tooth and nail for every entitlement they can get their grubby hands on to. Its also a known fact that most companies pass costs associated with unions and higher taxes to their customers. Those that don't do so suffer growth. The mail services are a prime example of this. To stay competitive, UPS could not reasonably pass on all the expenses to its consumers - thus slower economic growth. The U.S. Postal service (which gets the majority of its funding from a yearly budget) does not have nearly the same leeway. It charges postal fees, but even after a flurry of price increases in the past decade, it simply cannot keep up with the burden placed upon it from its union members. With clauses that prohibit layoffs and with benefit packages larger then what most other federal employees have, the union is eating up all of the postal service's resources!
Of course, the unions try to hide these facts from public eye and very recently, Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa has declared war against Republicans by saying:
"We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They've got a war, they got a war with us and there's only going to be one winner. It's going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We're going to win that war," Jimmy Hoffa Jr. said to a heavily union crowd.
"President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let's take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong," Hoffa added.
According to him, the only people who qualify as "workers" are those who hold a union membership.
A few years ago, I started employment at a large telecommunications company. During a point in our training session, the trainer informed us that representatives of the local union were going to come in to talk with us. During that time, he was not allowed to be present. Also, none of us had a choice of whether we wanted to listen to the presentation or not. During the "talk," two union reps lied about party affiliation and bragged that the company's (relative) high wages and benefits package were due to their efforts. They painted those who were non-union in a very negative light and used promises of gifts as well as strong peer pressure to "encourage" the new employees to join. Those of us who refused (only me, actually) were treated as unworthy and literally frowned upon. They failed to mention that the price increases that consumers were seeing were a direct result of their actions.
The truth of the matter is that unions are a now defunct requirement in today's business world. There once was a time when they were needed, but that time has long ago passed them by. Unions have transformed into proverbial leaches which drain a company's resources and threatens to put it out of business either through prices that consumers would prefer not to pay or by simply emptying the company's coffers. There is no accountability applied to them for their actions, and they go out of their way to demonize anyone who opposes them.
Unions - an entitlement group that America simply cannot afford.
